
In an interesting move, Finance Minister Ezra Suruma is banning the import of thin plastic bags and increasing the tax on thick ones by 120%. The ban will begin July 1 but traders have until September to get rid of their existing stock.
Enforcement? Hmm…. I’m curious how this one will happen…

It may be an imported material, but it’s an awfully common one. What will people put chapati in? And groceries? I don’t really see receycled paper bags coming to Uganda any time soon…
It’s good to try and save the environment, but this to me seems like another misguided effort. What about emissions from factories and cars? Or the huge amount of garbage all over Kampala???
